On 23 March 2026, Niin Lee Palm Lodge was inaugurated in the Awash National Park area, marking a significant new hospitality investment for Afar Regional State.
A destination investment
The inauguration brought together national and regional leadership, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Afar Regional President Haji Awel Arba. The lodge expands the region’s premium accommodation offer at a gateway known for wildlife, river landscapes and volcanic scenery.
The property includes two presidential villas with private pools, 12 interconnected premium rooms and 16 one-bedroom luxury units, supported by hospitality facilities and views across the surrounding landscape.
A stronger Awash circuit
Quality accommodation can encourage longer stays and more connected itineraries. From Awash, travelers can build journeys toward the Aledeghi Plains, Doho, Yangudi Rassa and—when routes and conditions permit—the wider Danakil.
The lodge also creates opportunities for local employment, supply relationships and visitor experiences rooted in Afar’s landscape and culture.
Growth with stewardship
Afar’s tourism future depends on balancing visitor comfort with conservation and community benefit. Niin Lee Palm Lodge represents the kind of investment that can strengthen the destination when operations respect park rules, local knowledge and the environmental limits of the place.
Travel conditions, volcanic activity, road access and permits can change. Confirm arrangements with Visit Afar and your operator before departure.
